Bec Swansson, Able Australia’s Deafblind Services manager, has created a 12-month Recreational Program for clients who use our deafblind services and the wider deafblind community via Deafblind Victoria.

We also extended the invitation to the deaf/deafblind people who frequent Able’s Day services, as they are part of our deafblind community too.

Each month, the group meet at a different location around Melbourne to socialise, have some lunch and explore.

On January 19, the group met at St Kilda beach, where people with deafblindness and their comm guides or support workers braved the wind to explore the seaside before walking up to Prince of Wales for some lunch and chatting. Many of these individuals have not been able to catch up face-to-face since before the beginning of COVID lockdowns, so it lovely to see people connecting after so long apart.

Next catch up will be at Royal Botanical Gardens in February!
