Respite Services

What are Respite Services?

Respite is a service where people with disabilities can experience a range of activities and adventures while carers and families have a break from their everyday caring role.

It can be planned or used when needed for a few hours, a day, overnight or longer depending on individual needs and NDIS plan funding.

We also offer Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) services for clients looking to ease into an independent living arrangement or transitioning home from a hospital stay.

Where support is provided

Respite support is delivered in a safe and supportive environment at one of our respite houses in Tasmania.

Why respite?

Respite support gives you time to rest, reset or manage other responsiblities, knowing the person you support is in safe and experienced hands.

Respite is not just a break for families and carers, it also provides the opportunity for people with disability to:

  • Build independence and daily living skills
  • Experience time away from home
  • Connect with others and try new activites
  • Build friendships
  • Have fun

At Able, our NDIS respite services in Tasmania. We focus on creating a positive experience for people with disability, with support tailored to individual needs, routines and preferences.

Respite Services Case study

What happens when we ask “how can we?”

For Cody and his mum Mel, it meant a day at the beach and Cody catching his very first waves at a Disabled Surfers Association Tasmania event.

With the right support around him, Cody was able to try something new while Mel could simply enjoy the moment and cheer him on.

Sometimes the right support makes new experiences possible, for the whole family.

Who can use the services

Our respite care services in Tasmania support:

  • People with disability who would want to have new experiences, social connection or simply a change of environment
  • Parents and families caring for a child or adult with disability
  • Carers who need time to rest, recharge or manage work and life commitments
  • Support coordinators, allied health professionals and referrers seeking trusted NDIS respite providers in Tasmania.

Whether you need ongoing support or occasional care, our respite services are flexible and tailored to suit your needs.

We are here to help

Supporting someone everyday can be both rewarding and hard. It can also be physically and emotionally demanding.

Many carers feel like they need to do everything themselves. Taking a break can feel difficult, or even something to feel guilty about.

It’s not.

Accessing NDIS respite support in Tasmania can help you maintain your own wellbeing while continuing to provide care. The person you support gets to enjoy new experiences and connection, while you take a bit of time for yourself.

At Able, we take the time to understand you. This includes routines, communication needs and preferences. You will be safe, comfortable and supported by experienced disability support workers.
