Recently we held our Deafblind Services (DBS) annual team day.

The morning was spent focusing on best practice in tactile communication with presentations from Deafblind presenters, Heather Lawson, Gina Pontelandolfo and Monash University researchers who have partnered with our Centre of Excellence – Deafblind (CoE – DB) to research best practice in tactile communication.

The afternoon focused on learning braille with a presentation from Project Officer, Olitta Faapusa and activities coordinated by our CoE – DB team.

DBS staff all had the opportunity to type words using a Perkins brailler, match braille labels with canned food, put braille letters and numbers in order and learn how to pair their smart phone with a braille device among other activities!
