Joe’s Story

Meet Joe. Joe was born deaf, and started to lose his eyesight at age 30. His life goal was to walk the Kokoda Track to honour his grandfather who fought in the War.

After losing his hearing and sight, Joe felt sad and depressed as he lost his job and independence. Able Australia supported Joe to get out into the community again and reach his goals and aspirations. With the support of his Able Communication Guide, Joe walked the 1000 steps each week in preparation of his big hike. After hard work and dedication, Joe achieved his goal to walk the Kokoda Track!
