What is NDIS doing?
The NDIS is reducing Social, Civic and Community Participation (Community Participation) funding by 50%.
This is an NDIS-wide change. Community Participation funding will be halved for all participants who receive it, affecting all providers who deliver these supports.
Able Australia does not make decisions about a participant’s NDIS funding, however we are here to support you through the changes and look for solutions so that you continue to be supported.
When will this happen?
The change will happen progressively, so participants will be affected at different times.
- From 1 October 2026: the reduction will apply when a plan is reassessed and a new plan is approved.
- From 1 February 2027: the NDIS will also begin reviewing plans that have previously been rolled over or automatically extended. This means some participants may have their plan reviewed earlier than the end date they are currently expecting.
Your funding will not necessarily change straight away. However, from February, you may not be able to rely on your current plan end date to know when the change will affect you.
What could the NDIS changes mean for you?
Community Participation funding helps people connect with their community, work towards their goals, build independence and take part in activities that are important to them.
With 50% less funding available, some supports will need to change.
What this looks like will be different for each person. Changes could include:
- the number of support hours available
- when or where supports are provided
- individual or group-based supports
- support ratios
- programs and activities
- how different supports and providers work together.
We’re here to help you
Able is preparing now, before your funding changes.
We will work with participants, families and nominees, Support Coordinators and other providers to understand what the change means for each person and plan ahead.
You do not need to work this out on your own. We will talk with you about your family member’s circumstances, what is important to them and the options available as their plan changes.
