Meagan Downie Knowles, Chief People Officer

We asked Meagan a few questions as you will read her energy shines through.

What drew you to work at Able?

I have spent the bulk of my career in the not-for-profit sector, predominantly in social and community services organisations. Able Australia has a great reputation and I love their vision of enabling clients to live the life they choose.

What gets you out of bed each morning?

Knowing I will be giving back to the community through my work and workplace. I have always been driven and passionate about for-purpose organisations making a real difference in the community.

What has been your biggest career achievement?

I think the greatest achievement so far is withstanding the chaotic world of work brought about by a global pandemic. It has been so challenging for many of us.

What motivates you as the Chief People Officer?

The individual journeys of people really interest me. I love nothing more than helping people to master their craft and further develop their careers. I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing mentors throughout my almost 20 years in HR, who have provided me with amazing and incredible opportunities, support and guidance. I am really motivated and inspired to do the same for others.

What would you like to achieve as the Chief People Officer at Able?

As I mentioned earlier, it has been a wild ride over the last few years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I am hoping to foster a re-connected and collaborative workforce at Able, who are curious to learn from each other and approach inevitable future change with creativity, drive and optimism. I intend to lead with the values of the organisation front and centre and bring authenticity, humour and energy to the Able team.

The biggest learning you take in to the workplace.

The pandemic has really shown us that we are more agile and able to successfully pivot than we ever thought! Brene Brown said it best- ‘Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation and change’. From all the learnings over the years, this has definitely been the greatest. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable can really bring about great things.

Anything else you would like to share about yourself.

I am a foodie, avid op shopper, musical theatre tragic and mum of two high-spirited little boys that always keep me on my toes.
