On the 15th of June 2021, Able Australia held a Seniors Safety & Wellbeing Seminar for our Queensland clients to help spread awareness of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. This day aims to raise awareness of elder abuse, which is any act which causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust, such as a family member or friend.
The seminar featured special guest speakers which included Uniting Care Elder Abuse Prevention Unit, ADA Australia (your Aged Care and Disability Advocates) and the Public Trustee.
Clients enjoyed lunch, trivia and to top it off, a purple fashion show! Clients dressed in purple which represents dignity and is the symbolic colour of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Exhibitors included Queensland Police Service Crime Prevention, Churches of Christ, CIMAS Home Nursing Service, Live Life Alarms, Hearing Australia, OZCARE, Uniting Care, The University of Queensland, STAR, National Seniors Association and Senior Net.
We appreciate the support of the Ipswich & West Moreton Senior Services Network and thank all our guest speakers and exhibitors that attended!
We received fantastic feedback with the clients, saying they found the guest speakers to be very informative and they learnt lots of things they didn’t know.
