Centre of Excellence – Deafblind (CoE – DB)

We work to connect people with deafblindness, and their support networks, to each other and to leading practice evidence-based information.

  • Maintain national network of allied health professionals working or interested in vision and hearing impairment.

  • Ensure deafblindness is considered in development of strategies to operationalise the UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities) for people with complex communication needs including deafblindness.

  • Support awareness raising of needs of people with deafblindness in partnership with Deafblind Australia, Deafblind Victoria and other relevant DB advocacy organisations in Australia.

  • Support Able Australia and other key stakeholders in Australia to ensure that deafblind people are maintaining their safety, awareness and health with COVID-19.

  • Ensure needs of people with deafblindness are considered in the development of the Accessible Telecommunications project being undertaken by ACCAN (Australian Communication Consumers Action Network).
