This year so far, the team at Made by Mosaic have been increasing their skills in sewing! Each individual has designed and worked on a tote bag – using upcycled quilt covers. This has resulted in some fantastic and unique designs.
Made by Mosaic is a social enterprise shop that sells handcrafted items made by Mosaic Support Services clients.
Regular bulk orders of gift packs from local organisations have previously helped fund accessible sewing machines. The sewing machines have extra features including hand and foot controls, plus a speed setting so that people can take their time to complete the work, without the rush of a regular sewing machine. This has allowed more clients to participate in projects that include sewing.
Shakeira and Amy have both finished their bags, and Janine is still working on hers. The plan is to make individual aprons for the team to wear to protect their clothing when working with soaps and dyes!

[Image Description: the first photo is of Janine sitting at a desk, smiling and holding up a bright red rectangular piece of fabric. The second photo is of Amy smiling while sewing fabric with a white sewing machine. The fabric she is working on is light-coloured with pastel polka dots. In the third photo Shakeira smiles while posing with a large, handmade fabric bag over her shoulder. The bag is light blue with colourful polka dots in pink, yellow, and white, trimmed with bright pink edging.
