Able Australia offers a range of programs in Queensland for seniors to help maintain good mental and physical health, social inclusion and prolong a person’s ability to remain living independently in their own home.

In Jimboomba (QLD), Able Australia also focused on providing transport for those that cannot travel to the centre themselves. Activities at the centre include morning tea and lunch on the days that the group is not going on an outing. Other in-house activities include ‘Tune Up Tuesday’ and ‘Jimboomba Jollies’ at the Jimboomba site.

Together with other volunteers, Nella Pesce loves running unique programs for our seniors. Nella thoroughly enjoys working with seniors and helping them improve their health and wellbeing, and has done so for many years.

One of our lovely clients, Peggy Tidbury, says “There is no other place like Able Australia, I use Able for everything! I am getting transport with Able at least 3 times/week, and come to social programs, it gives people like me independence! Your drivers are so pleasant and polite, as are all Able staff, and willing to go the extra mile”.

After the morning tea is served and socializing takes place, Nella runs exercise sessions which consists of a 1.5 hour workout for fall prevention, including strengthening, stretching and mobility improvement. Nella says “everyone does as per their own capacity, what they can, even if that means that they are doing it while sitting down.”

Towards the end of the workout, Malcolm Wood, one of our volunteers who happens to be an accredited Tai Chi instructor, joins the session. He runs a 15 minute Tai Chi class which the clients thoroughly enjoy! Malcolm began volunteering with Able in April 2018 and plays many more important roles as he loves to help the community.

We are so thankful for our amazing volunteers who go out of their way to help and support seniors in the community.

We aim to offer a wide variety of activities and support for people of differing abilities so that our clients can reach their full potential and live the life they choose.
